Parinot Kunakornwong
Born in 1983
Lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand
His multimedia practice explores the transformative power of objects in relation to memory, the body, and place. Rooted in personal experience, his works expand into fragmented narratives that blur the boundaries between self and world. He works across installation, sculpture, drawing, photography, and video, often using found or site-responsive materials. His work considers how memory might take form as temporary monuments.
The artist’s perspective is shaped by his upbringing as a third-generation Chinese diaspora in a garment factory and a Thai Catholic school education. He began his art practice in 2010 during the political unrest following the Thai military crackdown near his home. That year marked a turning point in his personal and family life, shaping how he approached questions of identity, gender, memory, and political structure. Rather than depict the self, he uses it as a framework to examine how cultural beliefs and inherited systems shape our perception of the body. He sees his work as a self-portrait as context.
