John Navid (b. Binjai, 1981) is a drummer, percussionist and photographer. Subsequent to completing his Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Music, Jakarta Institute of the Arts, John began to specialize in classical percussion. Most of us know John as the drummer in the band White Shoes and the Couples company (since 2004). However, he also actively works in the area of classical, contemporary and experimental music. Among his recent experimental music projects is “Mirak Div”, performed at Salihara Jazz Buzz with Adra Karim (2018). As a photographer, John’s subject matter revolves around the humorous aspects of urban life. Collaborating with fellow artists, musicians, and fashion brands is an important part of his practice.
