Riar Rizaldi

Riar’s (b. 1990, Bandung) works focus on the relationship between humans and technology, media and consumer electronics, image circulation and network intervention. Through his works, Riar questions notions of temporality, image politics, fiction-theory, virtuality and the consequences of unanticipated technological developments on human and non-human lives. Riar also actively performs his sound composition works through foley and field recording methods through computer algorithms. 

Riar has been a curator for ARKIPEL Jakarta International Documentary & Experimental Film Festival (2017) and Indonesian Netaudio Festival (2018). Riar’s works have been presented in global scope, such as dotolimpic festival (2017, Seoul), re:emergence (2017, Bandung), All Ears Festival (2016, Oslo), Asian Meeting Festival (2015, Tokyo), as well as his participation in the residency invitation program by Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture at Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (2017). In 2016, her installation and performance work The Act of Seeing (2016) was awarded the Newcastle Institute of Creative Art Practice Award. Riar is currently a PhD candidate in post-internet image circulation, politics of post-production, and computational cinema at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong.
